About The Long Grass Index

The Long Grass Index is a UK-focused public accountability platform that makes delayed decisions visible. It is published by The Long Grass Project.

What we track

Issues are decisions citizens, organisations, charities, businesses, MPs, public bodies or government departments believe have been "sent into the long grass" — unreasonably delayed or left unresolved without clear justification, where common sense has failed. A simple "no", or an organisation following a normal and clearly laid out process, is not long grassing. Issues are attached to one or more organisations.

How it works

  • Anyone can create an account and submit an issue. Real names are displayed; anonymous submission is supported.
  • Evidence, comments, and updates are added publicly. Discussion is threaded and votable.
  • Organisations can claim their profile to post official responses and request corrections.
  • Public rankings are produced from approved issues; engagement metrics are shown separately and do not drive rankings.

Our stance

The platform is politically neutral, civic in tone, and evidence-led. The Long Grass Index does not endorse or verify claims made by contributors.
